'Talking about it at nerd night was way more nerve-wracking than being hung up from the ceiling from hooks in my flesh. I was shadow boxing backstage just to get out all the nervous excitement of speaking.’

In recent years, the stretch of street 278 lying between 51 and 63 has become something of an expat haven; a tightly packed corridor of restaurants, bars, coffee shops, cafés, craft shops and music stores. Not as only-child-in-a-strop, hey-look-at-me-look-at-me brash as the riverfront, it has a slightly more low key charm all of its own.
A keystone of the 278 scene is Setsara, the Thai restaurant sister to Equinox’s bolshy, rock'n'roll tavern, older brother.

BANGKOK (AlertNet) - Severe flooding in Cambodia this month has killed 97 people, including 34 children, and affected some 90,000 families, the Phnom Penh Post reported on Thursday.
There are also concerns the capital will be inundated if the Tonle Sap River overflows, although officials expect the floods to start receding in other parts of Cambodia.
“Floods have seriously affected about 90,000 families,” National Disaster Management Committee spokesman Keo Vy told the Post.
The U.S. Embassy in Cambodia alerts U.S. citizens traveling in Cambodia of heavy rain and flooding along the Tonle Sap and other rivers through October 3, 2011. Weather reports predict heavy rain for the area that could cause the Tonle Sap to rise above its banks in the near future. Rivers throughout Cambodia are at a significantly higher level than is normal during the rainy season. With anticipated rains from Typhoon Nesat, currently a Category 1 typhoon in the South China Sea, and winds from Tropical Storm Nalgae, water levels may continue to rise and could pose a danger to safety.
Nestled between Mango and Axara on Sihanouk Boulevard, there is a discreet sign atop an asymmetric arch which gently entices people up a set of floor-lit, geometric, stone steps.
The message it denotes is very clear: herein lies modernity; herein lies chic; herein lies fine dining.
