Escape from Phnom Penh

After three weeks in Phnom Penh, I began to feel the very urgent need to flee the city’s constant cacophony of horns, the choking pollution, the routine of research/write/Tweet/repeat.

A friend had recommended a stay at The Vine Retreat, an eco-lodge tucked away in the rice paddies of calm, coastal Kep province. Coincidentally, a $10/night promotion popped up just as my laptop sputtered, protested weakly, then ultimately crashed. Technology agreed that I needed a break.

Cambodia's National U-23 Team yesterday suffered a 1-0 defeat to Nepal in their build up to the 26th SEA games in Indonesia. This defeat comes on the back of their failure to defend the BIDC Cup won in 2009 as they also fell to Thailand 2-1 in the semi finals of the 2011 BIDC cup thus putting pressure on the embattled Korean Coach Tae Hoon Lee

Cambodia to battle Taipei for semi final slot

Cambodia will take on Chinese Taipei in a crunchy tie in the final group game on Saturday in the ongoing 4th China-Asean Invitational basketball Tournament taking place in Nanning city of Guangxi Province, China.

Cambodia defeated Macao 72-65, lost to China Guanxi 62-72 before seeing off Vietnam Hanoi 90-72 in earlier games. Chinese Taipei also on their part defeated Vietnam Hanoi 74-48 and lost to Macao 58-71.

The UN says it was not behind the surprise resignation of the controversial German judge Siegfried Blunk at the Khmer Rouge tribunal.

That much was made clear in an overnight email from Martin Nesirky, the spokesman for UNSG Ban Ki-moon.

Nesirky wrote: “The United Nations did not tell Judge Blunk to resign. The United Nations became aware of Judge Blunk's resignation upon receipt of his letter to the Secretary-General.”

Cambodia beat Vietnam to edge one step closer to the semi finals

Cambodia is now one step away from a place in the semi finals of the China-Asean Invitational Basketball tournament following a spectacular win over Vietnam Hanoi in the group B tie played on Thursday in Nanning City, Guangxi Province, China.

The win came at the back of the lose to China Guangxi in the Wednesday Game and with the team having to play in the absence of their head coach Austin Koledoye's return to Cambodia due to pressing need in his job at NISC.

Injury blow for Cambodia

The Cambodia Basketball Team's quest for glory in China has suffered a set back following the injury to two key players. Monh Putratana broke a finger while Lav Chhaydany has suffered a groin strain following their victory over Macao on Tuesday. A third player who suffered injury to the thigh was able to shrug it off to play the second game yesterday (Wednesday) in the defeat of China Guangxi.

Cambodia National Basketball Team suffered their first defeat losing by 10 points to China Guangxi in the second game of their group B fixtures on Wednesday night.

China Guangxi haven been rested in the opening day fixtures came out smoking and took the game to the Visitor from the blast winning the first half 34-28.
