XEM Design Show at La Galerie

Marc Pollack

XEM Design has opened a new gallery called La Galerie on Street 178 next to Le Deli. They propose to mix design and fine art into one very nice space. The first show is, as you would expect, part design and part visual art.

EMRiem, a graduate of the Royal University of Fine Art, shows why he is one of Phnom Penh's up and coming young artists. There is no doubt that he has an exceptional feel for two dimensions. His virtuosity with imagery is clearly displayed through his three groups of paintings.

"The whole project is a load of rubbish!" some concerned citizens are saying, and the organizers of The Rubbish Project (TRP) would totally agree. G-PSF Boosts Cambodia's Investment Climate

Craig Guthrie and The Mekong Times

Cambodia's outward image as a war-scarred, lawless backwater has been all but transformed in recent years to that of a strategically placed, business-friendly Asian tiger waiting to roar. The transformation has been partly attributed to the work of the Government-Private Sector Forum (G-PSF) which started work in 1999 when the post-war government had little business expertise and the nation's private sector was still nascent. James Brew arrived in Cambodia in 2002 to work as the forum's program manager for the International Finance Corporation (IFC).

"I believe that investment in 2008 will increase two times to three times because of Japanese investors," he said following a High Level Conference on Trade-Related Capacity Development in Selected East Asian Countries in Phnom Penh yesterday.

The Mekong Times

Tourism experts have announced that visitors to the Mekong Sub-region may be able to buy a single visa for visiting Cambodia and five of its neighbors by 2015.

According to the Bangkok Post February 6 edition, the prediction was made at a Mekong Sub-regional tourism meeting in Bangkok earlier this week.

In this decade, tourism in the region is greatly developing. In 1995 there were only 10 million tourists, but by 2015 this is expected to increase to 50 million, predicted the Asian Development Bank's (ADB).
