Hey folks,

I will have a large room with aircon and ensuite available for rent at my place for $135 for per month (cleaning and utilities not included) as of 1 July 2011 as my departing American flatmate will be vacating the room to traipse around Europe for a few months (some people got it tough right?).

about your new flatmates
I am a khmer-born Australian guy in his early 30s who has been living and working in Phnom Penh for the past 2 and ½ years so I’d be happy to help you out with a few tips on settling into town or travelling around Cambodia etc. I work for an academic institution/NGO from the US in relation to the ECCC or Khmer Rouge Tribunal.

My other flatmate is a French girl in her early 20s who’s volunteering in a French NGO in the area of carbon finance.

Who we are looking for

We are both pretty easy going and out going people and if you are the same then we'd like to meet you!

How much?
Rent is $400 per month in total divided by 3 (135+135+130) payable to the landlady in advance due to the short duration of the lease.

We have a cleaning lady who comes once a week for $40 per month.

Electricity is pretty cheap, the total bill comes to around $35 per month but if you use the aircon you will have to pay whatever amount is over $35. Therefore, you can expect to spend around $165 per month total.

the place

the good
the place itself is a 3 bedroom (1 downstairs, 2 upstairs) 4 bathroom khmer style house with the following features: large living room, TV, small balcony, basic kitchenette, washing machine, smallish fridge, guard, ample moto/bike parking and nice family downstairs.

The landlady and her family are the sweetest people on the planet (they don’t even charge for cable TV or water when most other landlords will).

the bad
there is no hot water (not that you need it here) or internet but you can buy a USB stick from metfone for $40 and hook yourself up in less than an hour for $20 per month for 12 gigs!!!!

here is a link to some pics of the place:

Hit me up on 098 329 639 if you have any questions or would like to arrange for a viewing!

Cheers,
Poramy

Hi,

I’m a French medical student who looks for an accommodation for this summer in Phnom Penh with my two friends, because we have a work placement at the Calmette’s hospital.
We look for an accommodation, the most cheaper.

Our dates of trip are : 18/07/2011 to 03/09/2011.

Is your room still available ? Is it possible to rent 2 rooms?
How long can we join the Calmette hospital on foot from your apartment ?

Have a nice day.

hi lora,

thanks for showing interest in my flat.

i was looking to find a new flatmate by the beginning of july and i only have one room spare. unfortunately, you and your friends will only arrive on the 18th and will require at least 2 rooms so it doesn't seem like it was meant to be?

my flat is in an area called BKK3 (near tuol sleng) which is about 10-15 minutes by moto to calmette hospital.

i'm not sure if you will be able to find a flat (in an expats area) that is walking distance to work but i would imagine most people who work at Calmette or the Pasteur institute next door would live either: on the riverside near the nightmarket (psar chas) or near central market (psar thmey) which would all be about 2-5 minutes away via bicycle?

sorry, i couldn't be of more help to you but i recommend talking to your boss/contact at calmette about the areas where the previous medical students have stayed?

good luck, feel free to message me if you need more tips about settling in to phnom penh.

good luck,
P

Hi Poramy,

I'm very interested in checking out this room. I'm a 27 year-old American and just moved to PP. I'll be working for a newspaper here for a year, possibly longer. Unfortunately, I don't have a cell phone yet, so can't call you. Would you mind emailing me at klynch83 [at] gmail [dot] com so we can coordinate a time for me to come check out the place (assuming it's still available, that is). Thanks!

the room has now been taken peeps...thanks for all of your enquiries.

my other flatmate will complete her internship at the end of july so watch this space for another listing in the near future.
