hello from Marseille!!

we are moving to Asia for couple of months meeting a friend in PP and thinking of buying a car, then driving down to Bali through thailand/malaysia/singapore...

Is it possible to buy a car in Cambodia with a tourist visa?

I heard it is quite difficult to move out from the country the car, do you have any experience about it? i would be pleased to read you!!

Also do you think it is possible to cross all those borders with a cambodian car?

return to PP would be by ferry from Indonesia to Thailand, no clue if it's possible!!!!

any help to plan or experience would be grateful!!
thanks u!! Wink

Hi,

One point you should think about is that in Cambodia they drive on the right hand side of the road (nominally) , so the cars are left hand drive.

thailand/malaysia/singapore/indonesia all drive on the left hand side of the road, so their cars are right hand drive.

I would get a car in Thailand, but you would have ask all the embassies if it is possible to travel across borders, I think Indonesia would be most difficult to bring a car in

I think that you cannot cross border from Cambodia to anywhere in a private car registered in Cambodia - or other countries for that matter. Tho, I do now wonder what the deal is with all those trucks hauling stuff across Thai Cambo borders... do they have special plates, or do goods just get transferred from one truck to another.
