Been told for Khmer citizen (both mum and dad, not groen ghat) it is around 20,000 riel, but for foreigner the cost (for us anyway) was $25 plus $5 for the mandatory lubricant at our Sangkhat. Make sure you apply for the birth cert within the month of your child's birth plus you must at least have a marriage cert. your wife's family book and a copy of your passport and visa otherwise price may vary depending on the mood of the honest men and women of the Sangkhat official. It took them 3 days to process ours. I am sure others may have different experiences compared to us.

Good luck with the process.

"plus you must at least have a marriage cert."

Not required. Why would it be?

Key words here within the above statement are: "at least"........"otherwise price may vary...."

I am sure you can get by without a marriage cert. For most Khmer this isn't a requirement, but when you go down to the Sangkhat they will always ask for a marriage cert. However it will leave you up to the whim of the Sangkhat officials.

Like I have mentioned this was "our" experience and if you have alternative experience or knowledge on this matter I am very keen to hear your situation as I would expect it would be beneficial not only for me for future references, but to the OP and others who are reading this as well.

Cheers,

Tom

My girlfriend paid, after a lot of irritating hassling and delay tactics by those police-uniform-wearing stationary objects in hammocks on the premises of the sangkat police, the amount of $30. It took us more than 2 months at this rate to obtain the document. Expect to pay more if you want a little cooperation. We preferred the wait as we don't want to submit to giving more than strictly necessary. We want to keep artifacts like civil servants as poor as we possibly can. And that is exactly what they deserve based on demonstrated skills and proven track record with us over the years.
