Art Exhibition - Phnom Penh: Open City, Open Mind
Opening Reception: 6:30PM, Wednesday, March 11th, 2015

The Asia Foundation Community Art Gallery is proud to present its second exhibition with a group show featuring the works of five Cambodian artists. Phnom Penh: Open City, Open Mind, will run from March 11th through June 11th, 2015. The featured artists who live in Phnom Penh and Battambang explore their vision of the city in the future, through various mediums.

The Asia Foundation Community Art Gallery asked the artists three questions:
• What makes Phnom Penh a livable city?
• What do you enjoy about the city?
• What’s your vision for “your” Phnom Penh?

Chhunly Poy and Kolab Koeurm (animation)
Davit Pum (architecture)
Chansi Voung (art + architecture)
Prom Putvisal (painting and etching)
Kim Philley (fiction)

Additional artists:

Phe Sophon-Kosal (painting)

About the Community Art Gallery
The Asia Foundation Community Art Gallery is a storehouse of ideas made by the city’s visionaries. The Asia Foundation’s Community Art Gallery offers an inviting, modest, and dedicated space to provoke and sustain conversations about a rapidly changing Phnom Penh. Curated in coordination with visual artist Khiang Hei, The Asia Foundation Community Art Gallery will host a new exhibition every three months.

A History of Support and Investment in Art and Culture
The Asia Foundation has long supported art and culture and understands the value of culture to development. In the 1950s, to promote peace and reconciliation within divided societies in Asia and preserve Asian cultures, the Foundation supported the construction of an exhibition hall for China’s invaluable art treasures in Taiwan, the precursor of the Palace Museum in Taipei. The Asia Foundation also supported the National Museum of Korea and helped bring Korean culture to the attention of international scholars and art connoisseurs. Today, the Margaret F. Williams Memorial Fellows in Asian Art Program and Brayton Wilbur, Jr. Fellow in Asian Art contribute to the professional enhancement of Asian art curators.
