Vietnam Vs Thailand in Women’s Asian Cup Finals

Vietnam to play Thailand in Asian women’s football finals

Vietnam’s female football team will play Thailand in the 2008 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Women’s Asian Cup finals in Ho Chi Minh City, according to Friday’s draw.

Vietnam will take on the Thai team at Thong Nhat Stadium on June 1.

Atthe SEA Games in Thailand last year, the Vietnamese team lost 2-0 to Thailand in the final.

According to the draw result, the eight teams will be divided into two groups.

Group A includes defending AFC champion China, 2006 Asian Games (Asiad) champion North Korea, Thailand and Vietnam.

Group B includes Asiad runners-up Japan, AFC runner-up Australia, South Korea and Taiwan.

The final round matches all are scheduled to take place between May 28 and June 2, the semifinal matches on June 5 and the final on June 8.

All the matches will be played at the Thong Nhat Stadium, except for the final round matches on June 1 and 2, which be played at both Thong Nhat Stadium and Military Zone 7 Stadium.

Vietnam was appointed host of the 2008 AFC Women’s Asian Cup football finals for the first time after successfully co-hosting the 2007 Asian men’s football championship and the qualifiers of the 2008 Asian women’s football championship in HCMC in March.

At the end of the tournament, the city will host the Asian Under-13 Girls Championship, with 12 teams to compete at Thanh Long Stadium, according to Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) Secretary General Tran Quoc Tuan.
