Mr Presbury, 58, joins the airline with an impressive list of credentials having also led national carriers in Kenya and Ghana.
He said his first task would be to develop a route network within Vietnam before adding services to China, Japan and elsewhere in Asia, the Financial Times reported.
Vietjet is preparing to launch its first flights by the end of the year. It will begin with three Boeing 737s this year and intends to be flying about 10 aircraft within two years, the Financial Times said.
The paper added that Vietjet would compete with Vietnam Airlines, the country's national flag carrier, and Pacific Airlines, a budget offshoot of Vietnam Airlines, in which Australia's Qantas Airways Ltd. holds
