Silent Film Concert
While silent films were traditionally accompanied by a single pianist, Pierre Oser, a conductor and composer from Munich, breaks new ground in composing contemporary soundtracks for silent films. For the screening of Fritz Langs classic Der muede Tod he brings together a 24-piece ensemble from the Vietnam National Academy of Music in the Hanoi Opera House. Osers composition for Langs masterpiece is conceived as a combination of live orchestral music and pre-recorded sound segments. The live sound of the musicians will be supported by recordings of the same and complimentary instruments, creating the effect of a much larger orchestra and offering a genuine and powerful concert experience.
Der muede Tod / Destiny
(Fritz Lang| Germany 1921| 97 min)
The tragic-romantic story of a young woman was Fritz Langs international as well as stylistic breakthrough. From his earlier films Fritz Lang transferred his predilection for the romantic and the mystical. This time it is Death which as a strange and mysterious figure intrudes directly into the lives of a young couple and leads the heroine to Baghdad, Venice and Peking.
