Bordeaux Winemakers Uncork Fine Wines at the Caravelle

Five renowned Bordeaux winemakers will be pulling the corks from their premium vintages May 23 when the Caravelle Hotel hosts an exclusive wine-pairing and dinner at 7pm.

"It's not everyday that the owners of some of the most illustrious Chateaux in the most renowned wine-growing region of France show up in this part of the world," said John Gardner, general manager of the Caravelle Hotel. "On this city's social calendar, we believe this will be the night of nights."

The vintages and menu pairings at this special event are as follows:

  • Canon-la-Gaffelière 2000. Accompanied by a crispy veal sweet bread, beetroot, sautéed wild mushrooms and mushroom aioli.
  • Smith-Haut-Lafitte blanc 2000. Accompanied by a lobster tail & monk fish, saffron flavored bean curd and eggplant stew.
  • Smith-Haut-Lafitte rouge 2001. Accompanied by foamy duck liver soup and brulee pork knuckle and apples
  • Branaire-Ducru 1996. Accompanied by slow braised veal cheeks, hot duck liver medallions and lemon crushed potatoes.
  • Pontet-Canet 1982. Accompanied by Bayonne wrapped lamb loin and braised lamb shank, ragout of artichokes and Dijon mustard sauce.
  • Gazin 1998. Accompanied by Wagyu beef on herbed beef reduction, pommes dauphine and green asparagus.

Tickets for this exclusive event, to be held in the Caravelle's Opera Room, cost US$150 per person or US$1,000 for a table of ten.
