Cambodia Basketball Star Killed in Auto Crash

Cambodia National Basketball Team Player, Phal Sorphor on Friday night was killed as his motobike ran into a moving truck on his way to the province.

According to reports, Phal Sophor who only recently returned from China where the National team took part in the 4th China-Asean invitational Basketball team was on his way to see his family in Preyveng Province before leaving for the 26th SEA Games in Indonesia but was unfortunate to meet with untimely death in an auto crash.

The Cambodian Contingent to the 26th SEA Games were treated to a Sumptuous Gala Dinner hosted by NagaWorld yesterday as a send-off for the Indonesia-bound delegation.

The Occasion witnessed by other NOCC's Corporate sponsors was presided over by the President of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia and Tourism Minister, Dr. Thong Khon, who handed over a Cambodian national Flag to the General Secretary of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia, Vath Chamroeun, who is leading the Cambodian squad as the Chef de Mission.

Viva Mexican cafe opens in Phnom Penh

Mexican fare is not normally my first food of choice, however when one of our members tipped me off that Viva had opened in Phnom Penh, my tastes buds started screaming for Quesadillas.

It was last June that I had originally tasted Viva's great food on a trip to Siem Reap and on hearing that they had opened in Phnom Penh, there was no point in fighting the urge.

No less than three of the foreign based Cambodian athletes touched down in the Kingdom on Tuesday night ahead of their last lap of preparation for the 26th SEA games, which are set to start in less than 10 days time in Indonesia.

PM gives a boost for SEA Games Contingent

The Cambodian Delegation to the SEA games were Monday given a boost by the Prime Minister Hun Sen who announced a Cash award of 300 USD for all delegates and a further 3000 USD for Gold medalist, 2000 USD for Silver medalists and 1000 USD for bronze medalists.

The PM made this announcement at a reception held in honour of the SEA games bound contingent.

In his speech, the Prime Minister encouraged the athletes and coaches to put in their best to win laurels for the Kingdom in the biennial event which will take place in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia from 11th - 22nd November 2011.

Cambodian and American rock band Dengue Fever announced today that its previously announced South East Asian “Electric Mekong” tour, has confirmed dates, cities, and venues for this November. This is the band’s third tour of the region in its career. Additional tour dates are still to be confirmed.

Cambodia’s dream of winning honors at the 4th China-Asean Invitational Basketball Tournament was finally punctured on Sunday following defeat to Hong Kong in the first playoff to determine the 5th/6th place win.

The Cambodian team lost to Chinese Taipei 103-96 on Saturday to miss a place for the Semi Finals and was pitched against 4th place finisher from Group A.

Cambodia's Hope of making it to the Semi finals of the 4th China-Asean Invitational Tournament suffered a blow as the team lost 96-103 to Chinese Taipei on Saturday. With both sides need victory in the last group tie haven both won two matches and lost one in previous group games. It was Chinese taipei who started the better side. Taipei began the game brightly, breaking quickly and keeping Cambodia on the back foot for the first Quarter finishing 28-21.
