One million and a half child laborers in Cambodia are losing out on a decent education, with their arduous childhoods often ruining their lives and damaging the nation's economy, participants at the World Day Against Child Labor told audience members yesterday. The event, launched yesterday at national TV station TVK, was entitled "Education is a solution to child labor in Cambodia," and was hoped to encourage parents to end their children to school and not work.
The National Research Center for Traditional Medicine (NRCTM) has announced plans to modernize the production and processing of Cambodia's locally grown herbal medicines in order to help the poor. "We think that the poor can be helped through the modernisation of traditional medicines, because they can be bought and sold locally and replace foreign imports," said Heang Ponlei, NRCTM director.
Cambodia and its neighbour, Vietnam, have vowed to complete the mapping of their shared land borderline within this year as set forth by the joint committee for land border demarcation.
The pledge was made at the sixth meeting of the two countries' joint technical sub-committee for land border demarcation that took place in Phnom Penh from May 26 to 31.
Nguyen Hong Thao, Vice Chairman of Vietnam's National Border Committee and standing member of the Vietnam-Cambodia Joint Committee for Border Demarcation headed the Vietnamese delegation to the meeting.

The cheapest flights from Hanoi will cost $39.
One-way flights from HCMC to Kuala Lumpur currently cost $205 while $95 tickets are available from Hanoi.
Terence Swampillai, director of Malaysia Airlines Vietnam, said the campaign targets passengers departing from Hanoi, HCMC or ASEAN destinations to Kuala Lumpur.
"The campaign aims to promote tourism in Malaysia and increase our market share in Vietnam and other ASEAN markets," said Swampillai.

Eight fishermen have found a statue of Our Lady of Lourdes 33 years after the Communist regime in the country threw the statue into the Mekong River. Local residents have renamed the statue Our Lady of Mekong.
According to the L'Osservatore Romano, the fishermen were unaware of the value of the statue and sold it for "seven U.S. dollars to the inhabitants of a nearby town, who planned to keep the statue in their homes. However, some Christians in the region recognized it as a statue of Our Lady of Lourdes and explained the importance of the discovery."
The pig industry Governance and Technology Assessment Mission is being funded by USAID, through the Cambodia MSME Project, which is run by development organization DAI. Senator Mong Reththy, co-chairman of the Agro-Industry Private Sector Working Group and leader of the US delegation, said before his departure that everyone in the delegation will gain a lot of knowledge from the visit and will then pass on this scientific, agricultural and animal husbandry knowledge to the local community.
"We hope pig-raising in Cambodia will be transformed after this visit," he said.
According to the USD$2 million lawsuit filed at the New York State Supreme Court, the New Yorker Gokhan Mutlu was informed at check-in that his JetBlue flight from San Diego to New York was full.
However, a JetBlue flight attendant agreed for Mr Mutlu to take her seat, offering to travel in an airline employee 'jump seat', Reuters reports.
After 90 minutes of the flight, the pilot informed Mr Mutlu of the hostess' discomfort in the jump seat, and told him to 'hang out' in the bathroom for the remainder of the flight, the lawsuit claimed.
