The area south of the river (Gangnam) is developing as a major business center. Living south of the river may suit you better if your office will be in this area, given the traffic conditions. The area is modern and upscale. Subways, buses and taxis are easy to access. Most areas have one or more modern supermarkets or department stores. Although the traditional downtown area is somewhat far from here, getting there by subway only takes around 20minutes. Some of the best hotels, shopping centers and supermarkets are located in this area. Nearby is the Seoul Arts Center, a massive three-city block long complex of music and art halls. Samsung Medical Center is located in this area. Seoul International School and Korea International School are also here.
There are many Western-style houses and apartments in this area, and it is near several shopping centers. Public transportation, including the subway, is easy to access. The French School is located here and this is where many French ex-pats live, which is reflected in some of the stores and restaurants in the area.
Don't be fooled by the signs. Even though the area is filled with dual language signs, many of the restaurants and shop keepers do not speak French.
Several apartment complexes that were built for the Olympic athletes and their families are located in Gangdong-gu, in the southeastern area of Seoul. The park is a good location for jogging and the subway connections are convenient.
