The foreign community here is interwoven with connections and coincidences - associating through a variety of clubs or organizations and then often meeting by chance at restaurants, parties and the like. We really do know each other, even if we're not necessarily tight-knit. The cooperative spirit of the community comes from being thrown together in a sometimes culturally intolerant atmosphere. The result is a desire to find "like-thinkers" to bond with others westerners.
Simply stated, much of the Korean populace has yet to become "globalized" and consequently, their way of thinking does not always 'mesh' with western thought. The tendency for some expats to sit and stew about the situation or to begin Korea bashing is common, but were here to show you the other side of the coin, to make the experience not only more livable, but eye-opening and sometimes even lovable.
There's fun to be had in Seoul and though it's not always easy to find (other than the drinking), we're here to point you in the right direction. There's lots to do from societal functions to sports, from fine dining to heavy drinking, from hiking to biking, from dancing to dating, parks to playgrounds, tea houses to travel, artwork to antiquing, rock climbing to rafting, water skiing to snow, music to movies, yoga to, well, yawning — it's all here and we'll help you find it.
