Children's Activities Seoul

Seoul is not the most expat child friendly city -- you won't find some of the wonderful organizations that you may be accustomed to from back home like Mothers of Preschoolers and Gymboree or community sports like soccer, little league baseball and gymnastics, or youth groups like Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts or recreational centers offering craft and other youth activities.

However, life with your kids in Seoul can be fun. When considering your family's next adventure, plan a visit to one of these attractions: the Han River Park for sports and leisure activities, the Children's Grand Park for animal observations, the Coex Aquarium for marine amazement, and Lotte World for loads of amusement.

The Han River Park is great for bike riding, kite flying or picnicking with your kids. Find a spot in one of the many grassy fields and start a game of badminton or practice kicking the soccer ball. If your kids miss the zoo take them to the Children's Grand Park where they can see various animals living in Predator World, Ocean Zoo and Deer Park. And in the spring when the cherry blossoms have peaked watch a gentle breeze sprinkle the air with falling flower petals. For children mystified and mesmerized by underwater life the Coex Aquarium offers theme-oriented exhibits and first-hand knowledge of the world of underwater organisms. When your kids are begging for an adrenaline overload it's time for Lotte World, the world's largest indoor theme park. Some of the attractions include amusement rides, games, a Korean folk museum, sports facilities and movie theatres.

Of course these are only a few of the many ways you and your family can enjoy life as expats in Korea. Don't forget the camera!

The 63 Building

60, Yeoido-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul
Tel: 02 789 5114
There is a large aquarium on/near the entry floor, an IMAX theater (you can rent a headset to hear the movie in English), and of course an observation floor at the top of the building. Also on the inner wall of the observation floor, they have photos of Seoul "now and then" on exhibit, which is really interesting. Afterwards you can enjoy a meal at the food court. This is a really decent outing for the cold weather.
