Playrooms for Children in Seoul

Many of the "big box" stores such as EMart and HomePlus have small playrooms with slides, ball pits, games and an attendant. You can stay and play with your kids or leave them while you go shopping. Following are some suggestions compiled by Angela M., who has a 3 year old and an 18 month old.

The EMart in Yongsan (Yongsan Subway Station)

Charges 3,000KW for two hours of babysitting/play time. The attendants usually don't speak much English, so if you leave your children, you'll want them to be fairly independent. The playrooms can get pretty woolly and crowded on weekends, but on weekdays they are a lot of fun.

Baby Cafe

Located in the 7th floor at Shinsegae Department Store, at the Express Bus Terminal, near Marriott in Seocho-Gu offers a neat concept. It's a small playroom with soft climbing things and toys for the under 4 crowd. There are also video games and video playing for the older kids. The play area is surrounded by tables where moms can sit and sip coffee and munch on a bagel while watching their children. The playroom is free but the coffee and parking is expensive. (Parking is validated with a purchase of 30,000KW or more at Shinsegae). Also in the Express Bus Terminal is a MacDonald's, a huge bookstore with good toys and English titles sections and other fun shops, so you can make a day of it.

Hyundai Department Store in Apgujeong

Just across the Dongho Bridgehas a great outside, covered playroom.

Doota Building, 6th floor.

This is the giant department store in Dongdaemun. You can park here too. The playroom is 4,000KW an hour and you can get a bite to eat and watch the kids through the glass windows.

New Core/Kim's Club

In the "old" New core building on the 4th floor there is a play area in the back of the children's clothing department.

Gymboree

This is like the places you see in the States where you pay for a series of classes in an awesome playroom for you and your toddler directed by an English-speaking teacher. The prices are high but several moms make this a regular part of their weekly routine because their little ones "LOVE IT" they say. The one near UN Village offers classes in English.

Kinder Kids

Located in Hanamm-dong near Soonchunhyang Hospital and has playgroups for children 13 months to 2 years, 3-5 days per week for 30,000 KW per session. (9:30-noon) They also have toddler and preschool classes for potty-trained children

Rainbow

On "Veggie Hill" below the Hyatt is a drop-off childcare situation with indoor play areas for infants and toddlers. It may be the only childcare facility that will let you commit to fewer than five days a week.
