Cambodian Wrestling Federation's aim to host the 2012 National Wrestling Championship Tournament received a boost as Casey Barnett, Rector of CamEd Business School, donates US$10,000.
The event, which is has been slated to run from January 6-8 and will feature competition in two age categories of U23 and U17, with the aim to develop the next generation of Cambodian grapplers, will see the top performers earning selection to the national team.
This was disclosed by national team coach Thin Vichet, who also revealed that Barnett also donated $10,000 towards the 2010 tournament, which included funds offered to presidents of clubs and associations to support training of the players before competition.
“I like wrestling and I used to train in the sport between the ages of six and 20 years old,” said Barnett.
“I have also trained with the Cambodia national wrestling team for three years and in 2008, I won the second place with Greco-Roman and third in freestyle wrestling.”
The 2012 showcase will be held at the indoor hall at Olympic Stadium, with about 200 wrestlers expected to participate.
Cambodia Wrestlers to the last SEA games in Indonesia returned with 5 bronze medals.
