Hi all
Many of you attended our first fundraiser for the Daejeon dog shelter in February. That event was a great success, but the funds raised have since been spent on food and veterinary care for the shelter dogs and we find ourselves again in need of financial assistance to feed and care for the dogs while they wait to find their forever homes.
We will again be holding the event at the Rocky Mountain Tavern in Itaewon who have kindly offered their facilities to us (for directions please refer to the attached flyer, it is a couple of hundred metres walk up the hill from the Itaewon subway station, on the other side of the road to the Hamilton Hotel).
- The night starts at 8.00pm with live music from 9.15pm from The Forty Days, UR Seoul, Seth Martin, Zee and Dave Gwyther;
- 100% of the 10,000 won door fee goes to the care of the shelter dogs;
- Raffle prizes include an iPod Nano;
- We will have a number of the adoptable shelter dogs in attendance, they love meeting new people so please come say hi & give them a pat.
We would greatly appreciate your support - even if you can only attend for a short time it will help us save these dogs. Alternatively if you can't make it to the fundraiser but would like to donate to the dogs' care please contact me and we can provide the account details for our vet in Daejeon who provides the dogs' veterinary care (so you can be sure the funds are going directly to the care of the dogs). You can also donate directly if you like using the Paypal button on the home page of our website www.animalrescuekorea.org
When Animal Rescue Korea first started providing assistance to Mrs Jung and her shelter there were around 210 dogs living in her greenhouse (see the video in the below link from the ARK website). Since that time we estimate a further 10 additional dogs have been dumped there and approx 20 pups have been born to dogs that hadn't been spayed when they arrived. We did a headcount on the weekend and there are now 89 dogs at the shelter, which means around 150 dogs have been either adopted or fostered by kind people who have taken the time to come down to Daejeon and save a life.
We currently only have until the end of June to find homes for the remaining dogs, so if you or anyone you know is considering adopting or fostering a dog please do come down to the shelter on one of our weekly trips to Daejeon from Seoul every Saturday with our volunteers, adopters and fosterers. For additional details please contact me.
For further updates on the shelter please refer to the below thread from the Animal Rescue Korea forum - we regularly post pictures from the weekly Saturday shelter visits, dogs that have been adopted or fostered, videos from when we first visited the shelter and more recent videos.

As well, pictures of dogs that are in foster care and are available for adoption can be found in the Adoptables section of the forums here:

Couple of updates.
We have had great support from some of the local businesses, so raffle prizes include (as well as an iPod Nano):
- three course dinner for two (including wine) at Villa Sortino;
- drink/food voucher from the Wolfhound pub;
- drink/food voucher from the 3 Alleys pub
We will also have a donation collection bin on the night for people who may have left-over or surplus dog leashes / collars / food / treats, whatever you don't need that might be useful for the shelter dogs.
Anyone who would like further information please contact me at tim.vasudeva@gmail.com |
