Ecuadorian Film Festival from 14 to 19 July
This four-day festival has been organized by the Embassy of Ecuador in Seoul. The films are in Spanish with English Subtitles and will be screened in the Cinema Room of the Korea Foundation Cultural Center.

Heads or Tails (Caro o Cruz) 14 July from 7PM
Twin sisters have not seen each other in 25 years. Virginia gets off the plane, and reunites with Manuela. They seem to have nothing in common with each other. Virginia is sexually liberal and sallies forth at night to have fun with her various lovers. Manuela is more reserved, however, and prefers staying home, lying sterilely next to her husband with no desire for contact with him, only waiting for the night to pass by. But is she really sexually apathetic?
Between Marx and a Naked Woman (Entre Marx y una Mujer Desnuda) 16 July from 7PM
The film takes place in Ecuador during the 1960s, a period when, provoked by the military government, an electoral struggle for democracy is in full swing. Galvez’s left-wing party must elect its candidate, but he is cast aside due to his criticism of the party’s political leadership. While his struggle intensifies, he must withstand the frustration of not being able to offer his full love to Margaramaria, another party member with whom he has maintained a relationship since childhood.
The Tigress (La Tigra) 19 July starts at 1PM
In the mythical heart of Ecuador lives the indomitable Francisca, known by all as “La Tigra.” She is the eldest of three orphaned sisters and a top figure of her village. Masablanca, a black witch doctor tells them of a magic spell that will redeem the two sisters from their sins: the youngest sister, Sara must keep her virginity and live with her sisters forever, otherwise they will lose their land that Francisca obtained by decoying men with her beauty. Francisca becomes a strict guard of her little sister; she allows her no sensual pleasures, not even dancing. Despite all the strictness with Sara, Francisca leads a lustful life, drinking, and making love with various men in order to maintain her powerful status in her village.
1809~1810 As the Day Arrives (1809~1810 Mientras Ilega el dia 19 July at 3PM (10 minutes)
Actual historical events are presented chronologically from August 10, 1809 to August 2, 1810. The plot is interwoven from the opening scene to the closing scene with the love stories of Judit and her imprisoned husband, and the librarian of Quito and Colonel Arredondo, the commander of the invading troops sent by the Viceroy in Lima to crush the insurrection. The film portrays the lives of historical figures as ordinary, yet passionate characters.
