Does anyone know of any good doctors in Cambodia for Western Children?

All the doctors here seem to do the same thing every time anyone is sick.
First take an xray.
Then take blood.
Then put on a drip and finally keep giving injections every few hours.
Its like when they see a foreigner they see the dollar signs.
The doctors seem to be more interested in the cash than the welfare of the child.
The money charged is extortionate when in a Wetern country an antibiotic would be used.

Any advise greatfully received.

Thanks

Casey's article is very good. In PP we've used Aurora a few times and found them competent and they charge foreigners the same as locals.

I'd suggest Aurora for anything not too complicated and Royal Rattanak otherwise. Gavin Scott is very good but his price is $50 for a consultation vs $9 at Aurora.

I've also done some research on facilities in Thailand and Vietnam.

For full eye care the American Eye Centre in Saigon is trumps, closely followed by TRSC in Bangkok. AEC has an American-Vietnamese trained, certified and experienced opthalmologist, while TRSC has doctors many of whom have had some training overseas.

For general hospitals, Thailand has the edge but Vietnam is not far behind. Samitivej comes up trumps in Bangkok. Bummers and the Bangkok H are expensive, but still good. Also Saint Louis is worth looking at. Many Khmers go there. It's a catholic not-for-profit hospital. In Saigon Cho Ray H has many good reviews from expats and the French-Vietnam H seems pretty good too, but with some mixed reviews.

Mai Ling has a bus service direct from PP to FVH in Saigon, so worth keeping in mind.

I was fortunate enough to find Dr Heng Pouv @ 46-47, St 90, Sankat Wat Phnom. $15 for a consultation but he is a German trained Khymer doctor using only German medications and is international standard. I am happy to see him when I need a doctor. Ph; 012 559 659

I would not take any children to Dr Scott for obvious reasons.

Obvious reasons, could you be more specific? Maybe the moderator might also be interested to know - and then possibly and hopefully delete your comment.

I have always found Dr Scott to be a first class doctor so I to take offence to meaningless and possibly petty remarks like the one above.

Let google be your friend...

In Cambodia, a British doctor, Gavin Scott, 38, was convicted in 1995 of raping five boys between the ages of 14 and 16. He was released from jail almost immediately, having been held in detention pending his trial.

Many people involved in this at the time accept that the charges were a witch hunt -

but hey, charges / sentences changed dont make front page news do they. The article you cited should have an update - the page you referenced was published in 1997. A tad outdated

Here are some other Google references with links to credible journalists opinions. ones who were in fact in Cambodia at the time.
