Everyone is probably aware that this is common practise for Merchants to charge a % when using a credit card to pay for goods .
In the case of ANZ/R Bluespot ,This contravenes the contract that merchants sign when getting access to ANZ/R Bluespot facilities. The merchants sign an agreement not to pass on any fees or charges to use a VISA/MASTERCARD/JCB/ANZ/R debit card .
Today I purchased two plane tickets from a certain , well used and professional , travel agent and was charged 3% . I explained as a fellow ANZ/R merchant myself that this was not on ! . I was told this was company policy . Next step, i called contacts in ANZ/R and guess what ? I am correct (for once ) . VISA & MASTERCARD are stepping up their efforts via their assocaited Banks and I have already been informed that ANZ/R is working hard to EDUCATE their merchants with the threat of discontinuing access to Credit card facilities . Please take a firm stance , and report the merchant to ANZ/R (if bluespot) ....
HAPPY SHOPPING WITH YOUR PLASTIC
just to clarify, which is the the current situation? is the commission charge by VISA valid? is there recourse besides filing complaint with ANZ?
Further to above comments ... It appears that Visa / Mastercard are allowing the travel industry to charge the commission , however i believe that those merchants are actually using the extra commission for their own purposes .
I.e most travel agents would only get charged the low merchant rate of around 1.5% ...hence they make 1.5% for themselves ...
Cheeky buggers .........At least my Bar TALKIN TO A STRANGER and HARLEYCAMBODIA does not charge a commission.........we just absorb the cost and our trade increases due to offering this facility ....
