Shopping in Sihanouk Ville

Souvenirs

Sihanouk Ville does not offer souvenir shopping comparable to Phnom Penh or Siem Reap, but the town's shopping opportunities are growing.

There are however a few good souvenir shops. Rajana, has an outlet in Sihanouk Ville, located above the Starfish Café, offering a good selection of Cambodian arts and crafts, jewelry, textiles, coffees, spices and more. There is another NGO based shop, M'Lop Tapang, located on Serendipity beach that sells products made by disadvantaged women and kids. You can also find their product at Holy Cow, Starfish cafe and Geckozy.

The Khmer Artisans shop on Ekareach St downtown sells Cambodian made product such as carvings, silver jewelry, rattan bags and their specialty Cambodian Silk product and tailor made silk clothing. You can also buy yards of silk produced locally.

Traditional Market

Phsar Leu, or upper market, is the largest traditional market in town. It is a dimly lit, partially roofed expanse of stalls selling everything from meet and vegetables to auto part, jewelry, and of course clothes. Phsar Leu open and closes with the sun and is located on 7 Makara near Omui St.

Convenience Stores/Supermarkets

There are a few convenience stores or supermarkets in Sihanoukville. They have a good range of local and international product, such as cold drinks, hot and cold snacks and supplies for the beach, and they all take credit card. Ocean Mart Convenience store near Ochheuteal/ Serendipity/Sokha beaches offering lots of snacks, soft drinks, beer, wine, beach needs and more. Burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches. Internet. ATM. At the CCS Hotel on Ekareach near the Golden Lion Traffic Circle. Open 24 hours. 016-990981 Visa/MC

Orange Supermarket Bright orange convenience store located on the corner of Ekareach and Sopheakmongkol Streets in the center of downtown. Snacks, soft drinks, ice cream, beer, wine, spirits, sundries, toiletries, beach needs and more. Restaurant, bar and hotel supplier. Free delivery. Located downtown Open 7AM-10PM. Visa/MC

Samudera Popular, long established supermarket. Good stock of foreign foods, drinks, spirits, wines, cigarettes, imports. Good business connections. Visas. Air tickets. Real estate services. Exchange. Located downtown on the market road. Open 7AM - 9PM. Tel: 034-933441 Visa/MC

Bakeries

There are two bakeries in town. Starfish Bakery Cafe has an excellent selection of western style breads and pastries that are baked fresh. The Sokha Beach Resort also has a bakery. They have finely made desserts like pastries, cakes, pies and more all baked fresh.

The local baguettes are baked fresh in the evening and are sold in the form of sandwiches from carts or you can buy a few loafs from the "bread boys" who walk around town yelling "num pain" selling Baguettes from giant baskets.

Photo Shops

Sihanoukville does not have the best film developing available but if you must you must. New film and disposable cameras are on hand at many of the hotels as well as Ana Internet and Travel and Apsara Photocopy.

Ana Internet and Travel and Apsara Photography can also take care of digital photography. They can put it on a CD or print.

CD/VCD/DVD/Mp3

The Boom Boom Room, located on Weather Station Hill Tel: 012-709096 or Serendipity Beach, has a huge collection of Mp3 for your iPod or other Mp3 players. They also sell CDs and clothing at both stores.

CD World has a big selection of DVDs, VCDs, music, software and playstation games. They can also put you digital pictures on a CD. They are located downtown opposite the market Tel: 012- 709 096

Books and Magazines

Q&A Restaurant and Mr. Heinz bookshop, both on Ekareach Street downtown, and Casablanca Books at Mick & Craig's near the Golden Lions Traffic Circle, all carry good selections of used and new books including novels, travel and Cambodia related titles. You can buy, sell or trade the books. Starfish Bakery and Serenity have a smaller selection of books.

You can find the Phnom Penh Post and the Cambodia Daily at stands in front of Phsar Leu and some guesthouses carry copies of the Bayon Pearnik, a popular Cambodian tourism magazine.
