Restaurants

Though most dining venues in Kep are rather rustic, the seafood at Kep, particularly the crab, is absolutely excellent - literally straight from the ocean to your plate. Part of the road opposite Kep Beach near the main intersection is lined with picnic platforms and seafood vendors. Just find an empty platform; sit down and the vendors will come to you. Most have English language menus these days from which you can choose crab, prawns, squid and fish prepared in a variety of fashions. When ordering, be clear about exactly how much food you want and the cost before they begin to prepare your meal.

All of the hotels and guesthouses in Kep have restaurants and bars, most are quite good. Most serve a wider variety of dishes than the local vendors, fresh seafood dishes as well as variety of western and international dishes. . After dark, most everything in Kep closes down, except for the hotel/guesthouse restaurants and the restaurants at the Crab Market, some staying open as late as 10PM or 11PM. For Canadians missing that little bit of home; real poutine can be found at Veranda Guesthouse made by French Canadians. They even occasionally have cheese curds.

The only place in town; Riel Bar has regular concerts, exhibitions, performances, dance events and 'be your own DJ - evenings'. Located in between crab market and the hillside guesthouses the Riel Bar is always on your way. Customers that leave their dollars at home and pay in riels receive a discount on their bill.
