Horrific car accident in Vientiane

Many commuters were wondering why there was a huge traffic jam at Khouvieng road this morning. When they got closer to the Donpalan roundabout, they saw the reason: a car was lying on its side in the middle of the canal. A scan of the scene, showed a deformed crash barrier on Khouvieng road, a chopped tree and a lot of debris from the car.

Apparently the car jumped over the barrier right into the canal. Although the water isn't deep there, it was quite cold last night. No reports about how many people were injured or were even in the car. By late morning, cranes arrived to get the car out of the canal. The recovery work was observed by a lot of bystanders, actually causing the traffic jam. Police officers tried to get control over the situation.
