Living in Phnom Penh is not always easy. Each of us at some point feels the need to take a break and get away from the hustle and bustle of this ever busy city. At times it can seem difficult to find a place to get away, with work constraints and tight deadlines for most of us, a five hour drive down to the coast or into the province can seem like an unwanted hassle. However, as the latest addition to the luxury accommodation scene in Phnom Penh, Riverwind can solve all you problems. Just a ten minute ferry ride across the Mekong this place can offer both a decadent retreat and also a chance to escape to the Cambodian countryside.

Built by Andrew Thompson, Cambodia’s very own celebrity author, Riverwind is the perfect place to get away for a night or a weekend escape.

While the top floor of the house is a private residence, there’s no shortage of space in the downstairs apartment. With it’s vast open plan living room and kitchen, east to west facing floor to ceiling windows and contemporary design this spacious apartment offers the resident a perfect place for relaxation away from the city.

Upon entering the house you are greeted not only by the size and light of this original building, but also the fine attention to detail showcased by the delicate interior design. The fully equipped kitchen complete with stove and microwave is finished with a huge semi circle breakfast bar perfect for relaxed eating or entertaining experience. The sumptuous living room is a sight all to itself, with high open truss ceilings and neo-colonial furniture its easy to feel swept away by the sheer magnificence of this apartment.

The perfect attention to detail also extends to the bedrooms, with linens and silk wall hangings bought from the Jim Thompson House in Bangkok, both the master bedroom and guest bedroom lend themselves to a perfect nights sleep. The shared bathroom complete with dual skinks and outside shower adds to opulence of this riverside retreat.

For those who wish to relax outdoors away from constant noise of Phnom Penh, the 1.5 acre landscaped gardens are a must. Filled with Frangipani and palm trees this is the perfect place to watch the sunset across the Mekong or just chill out in the salt water outdoor pool.

Although both private residence and leased apartment, this is the perfect place for a brief retreat from the city. Situated only twenty minutes from the heart of Phnom Penh in the village or Areyksat, on the banks of the Mekong makes this an ideal place to escape.

This property can be rented for $250 a night or $4000 dollars a month, which includes staff and use of the gardens and pool. The ferry leaves from behind Naga casino every fifteen minutes between the hours of 5.30am and 10pm.
