New generation of Cambodian teenagers discovers telephone sex

Is it a new style? It may be for some, but Seth Bunsath said he's been engaging in telephone sex with his girlfriend for about five years already.

With mobile telephone companies increasingly providing free calls, such virtual sex has recently exploded. It is particularly popular between lovers living far away from each other and those who don't yet trust each other enough for the real thing.

Lita, a 20-year-old university student in Phnom Penh, says she used to have telephone sex with her boyfriend. "Honestly, I wanted to have sex like other people but didn't dare to because it’s not Khmer tradition," she told Cambodia Express News (CEN), an affiliate of The Cambodia Herald.

"Sex before marriage causes many problems including health problems and uncertainties about getting married later so telephone sex is the best choice. Not only does it provide sexual pleasure but it also lets me keep my virginity."

Lita offers a few tips to the uninitiated. “Telephone sex should be done in a quiet place where no one can disturb us, see our naked bodies and sexual behavior or hear us groaning," she said. "We're free to do whatever we want to do with our partners as if we were doing it directly."

Chin Vuthy, an engineer, said hesitantly with a smile that he and his girlfriend also used the internet "to show off our naked bodies" as well as having telephone sex. "People should only have sex when they feel in love and reach mutual agreement," he said.

Phonn Sreylen, a high school student in Phnom Penh, said she used to be shy and embarrassed when her boyfriend said over the phone that he wanted to kiss her, feel her body and insert his penis into her vagina. But "his words aroused my sexual feelings," she said.

A Khmer-Chinese girl, who asked not to be named, said she engaged in virtual sex with her boyfriend almost every night.
"After showing him my naked body at night, I dare not even look at his face in the morning," she said. "But this feeling has made us even more in love and I feel we belong together."

Teenager Chet Ravin says he believes telephone sex is a consequence of porn movies. Although banned, pornography is still available from telephone program installers provided the owner knows the customer.

But a high school boy, who asked not to be named, said he believed free calls were responsible for telephone sex. "Because of free calls, I was able to have long conversations with my girlfriend," he said. "The long calls led me to have sexual feelings and speak about these feelings to my girlfriend until we were finally done."

All those interviewed by CEN agreed that talking for long periods of up to an hour were necessary before they started their heated conversations about sex. The best time, they said, is usually late at night when others are sleeping.

While virtual and physical sex are the same in terms of reaching orgasm, the people interviewed said more ingredients were needed to flavor telephone sex.
