US Embassy Phnom Penh

The U.S. Embassy in Cambodia alerts U.S. citizens traveling in Cambodia of heavy rain and flooding along the Tonle Sap and other rivers through October 3, 2011. Weather reports predict heavy rain for the area that could cause the Tonle Sap to rise above its banks in the near future. Rivers throughout Cambodia are at a significantly higher level than is normal during the rainy season. With anticipated rains from Typhoon Nesat, currently a Category 1 typhoon in the South China Sea, and winds from Tropical Storm Nalgae, water levels may continue to rise and could pose a danger to safety.

The Mirror, Vol. 15, No. 703

Since The Mirror was started in 1997, we made an effort to “mirror” and translate all major trends in the Khmer print media, government and opposition, traditional and anti-traditional ideas, the economy and the culture.

One goal – by “mirroring” different positions – was always to encourage dialogue, and the Comments section on this page is such an invitation to exchange opinions, especially when there are conflicts which require solutions.

Such exercises becomes most fruitful when opinions expressed are presented stating how they relate to facts. That is why I recently quoted from the Documentation Center of Cambodia:

“…a society cannot know itself if it does not have an accurate memory of its own history.”

When they got closer to the Donpalan roundabout, they saw the reason: a car was lying on its side in the middle of the canal. A scan of the scene, showed a deformed crash barrier on Khouvieng road, a chopped tree and a lot of debris from the car.

My Take on Being a Female Journalist

KEO Kounila

My time in the United States for one month, after participating in an international seminar for journalists at the Population Reference Bureau, longer than previously intended, gives me some insights into the life of women in Cambodia and around the world. My intensive contacts with different women from Africa, Asia, Europe, and America also do not only tell me how they live their lives back in their countries, but also how they are struggling against all prejudices as women, and how they are juggling between their families and careers.
